Funerals as the opportunity to share Good News

We had our first snow already. Then couple of days of misty rain. Roads are slushy and muddy now. Hard to drive to the boat landing. We went to a funeral of a grandson of a brother who is saved and regularly come to Services in Thiket.

This is how brother Kevin described our trip yesterday:

We were able to participate in the funeral of Norman’s grandson. Passed on Oct.6 on a highway between Brandon and Winnipeg struck by a vehicle while riding his Bicycle. He was 24 y.o. Please pray that the hurting will turn to God for comfort. Brother Alexey brought the message and gave kind words lifting everybody up to see the Lord as the ultimate comforter. We were able to sing a few songs as a group too. We were protected on the trip and were blessed to meet the extended family.

At the burial site we put Kameron finally to rest and all together prayed Lord’s Prayer. Lord's Prayer is very dear and near to my heart. And many locals prayed it together with the brother who led the prayer.

One thing to add: funerals in First Nation Communities are very often. Violence, drug overdoses, accidents. And very often family members would ask missionaries to come and help with the funerals. Some times Christians would come for a Sunday school or Sunday Service but instead of the Service they would do an unexpected funeral. It happened many times. Some times brothers would dig graves as nobody could do it in time.

It turns out, that funerals are the only event where you can gather so many people together. We try to use this occasion to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. It is not very easy to find good words for the occasion. We also noticed that people became quite numb to the pain as they witness so many deaths. So we decided to try to use funerals as the opportunity to share hope, light and comfort that can come only from Lord Jesus Himself.

Please pray for local people here!

Please pray for missionaries to have words and deeds to provide comfort and light from the Lord to people in great need.
